The
Project
|
There
are several steps which must be taken to improve the safety of Highway
22 West for the people of Oregon and its visitors. These steps collectively
are known as Polk County-Project 22. The project will provide a safe
means for local traffic to cross the expressway, safely exit and enter
the expressway, and will reduce the risk of head-on collisions on
the expressway. The project will address both the rural and urban
section of the road. On the rural roadway (Segment A), three of the
major intersections will be upgraded to separate cross traffic from
through traffic via entrance and exit ramps. On the urban road (Segment
B), one major intersection will be upgraded and frontage roads will
be added to provide safe access to local businesses, farms and neighborhoods.
Traffic will also be divided along the entire length of the road,
thereby greatly reducing the number of head-on collisions.
The
proposed improvements of Polk County-Project 22 will be phased in
over a seven year period, with the rural improvements being addressed
first. The following table and map identify the implementation phases,
costs, locations and design concepts for the improvements.
